Small Diameter Cat6a Benefits
High Density patching can be difficult to manage, especially Cat6a copper cabling which tends to be heavy, not very malleable and thicker in construction than Cat6. If you’re only installing a small number of cables this should not be an issue, but for larger installations this can create a serious headache when it comes to moves and changes or even identifying the patch panel labelling that is often hidden from view.
To help solve these common problems, we have designed our very own range of Cat6a slim patch cables, carefully taking in to consideration the required performance and the often overlooked the environmental impact.
We’ve standardised on a U/FTP 30AWG construction (which uses less raw material) using 50 Micron shielded connectors and snag-less boots. This superior product provides Cat6a 10GBaseT performance and also has PoE compatibility. The cable length has been limited to 5 metre in length, mainly due to the reduced copper content compared with an equivalent S/FTP patch cable, ensuring no loss of signal and reduced attenuation de-rating over longer lengths.
A standard Cat6a patch cable has a diameter of around 6.7mm, however the slim option comes in at just 4.5mm diameter, providing a 30-40% space saving. This might not seem a big difference based on a single cable, however when you start considering the number of cables required for each patch panel in a relatively tight space then in this case, size is everything. The cable is also lighter than the equivalent Cat6a patch cable, so this makes it much easier to use within horizontal cable management and an improved bend radius has also resulted in improved airflow and cooling throughout racks and cabinets.
We also have ensured that onsite installation time is reduced by eliminating the plastic packaging that is usually wrapped around each individual cable. This has in turn allowed us to reduce the overall cost of the product with each cable only being loosely tied with a small tag to keep it coiled and ready for rapid deployment. Every cable has its length printed on the snagless boots at either end, meaning that they are ideal for identification and then reuse. Finally the tangle free slimline snagless solution protects the latch, allowing for easy release and removal in high density patching frames.
There’re 10x lengths available from 0.25m to 5m, with a choice of 10x colours, all of which are available next day from stock. Overall these Cat6a Slim patch cables will provide you with the required flexibility to quickly reduce clutter in your racks and cabinets, whilst always ensuring that the performance you’ve come to expect from Patch Solutions is clearly visible.
